FIRST ENTRY

Dear friends,

It was a bit difficult for me to create this blog,
but with my son's help me and finally I have created it!

I studed English long time ago, when I was young, but I never went to England or to the USA to study, so, my English is a "library English".

I am working as a local guide for more than 20 years. I speak some different languages, because to work as a guide you need to speak several languages if you want to work four or five dayapera week.

English was very difficult for me to learn. I can speak very well other languages without translate. I can read with no problem the other languages, but when I try to read in English, I feel tired after four or five pages. so I need to practise more and more to reach the same level that I have with the other languages.

When my daugter gave me the information about this course, I though that it will offer to me a good oportunity to study and improve my English, becasue timing is good and the School is not far away from home, moreover the prize is not very expensive.

I hope to learn a lot of things, and be able to speak more fluently and with a better accent.

Till tomorrow

Montserrat.-

  1. Hi Montse! Here is Lydia. I agree with you about our course timetable and its reasonable price. I studied tourism with the aim to become a guide, but I think today is more difficult work as a guide in Barcelona, because a lot of people from Hungary, Romania, Russia, etc speaks already 6 or 7 languages and learn very fast Spanish. What do you think about it?
I just speak English (it is OK), German (not bad) and a little bit of French. I understand Italian very well (that is really easy!!!).
Ok, I don't want to bore you. Take care!

  2. What are you doing now????
    as a job of course.
There are a lot of guides in Barcelona, well in Catalonia, and we have a Card to work as a Guide that the Generalitat of Catalunya give us.
When I finbished Touurism, it was very easy to have this Card, we had just to fill a form and send it to Madrid.
Nowadays people has to pass an exam. And all of the University Students that had finished their studies can pass the exam.
So there are a lot of Arts ans Story Students that try to pass the exam.
Then guides are free lance woekers and we have to find work everywhere. This is not easy at the beginning, but then if you work well you can.
Langages are important, but there are guides that speak not bad, byr not very well.
German is a good language, amd French too, because nawadays people don't learn French.
The people that arrive from the east countries, in spite that they speak a lot of languages, they work just for theirpeople, som Russian "guides" work just with Russian, and they don't have the card, but Russian agecnies prefer them because thay as¡ks less money.
This is a problem too. (there is like a little mafia inside this kind of travel agencies and guides) anf the Departament de Turisme de la Generalitat don'y help as very much.
But to work as a guide is a beautiful job
    Why you do not try???
    see you tomorrow- MOntsrerat.

  3. Hello, Montse. I wish you will tell your group on the 19th, something about the ice block. As a general comment you may say that it took four years (a lot of time!) to build that museum. It was so because of the complexity of the building and its content. It was opened on 2004 and up to now it is the best science museum in the world. Enjoy and see you.
